Cath Alexander

Author Information

Cath Alexander lives in Johannesburg with her family. After nearly ten years of full-time teaching, she resigned to concentrate on raising her two young children and nurture her love of reading and writing for children. Cath realised there was a gap that needed to be filled in terms of sharing the diverse cultures and ways of life in South Africa with children. As a teacher, Cath feels that added diversity in children's books would lead more children to feel better valued. This is her second storybook, with Timothy's Tomatoes being her first. Catherine Groenewald of the Little Girl who did not want to Grow Up and the Thandi and Nosipho series illustrates this beautiful African tale. Catherine Groenewald lives with her husband and three daughters on a smallholding outside Stellenbosch. She is kept busy with her writing, illustrating, chickens, fruit trees and gardening. She is involved with the not-for-profit initiative Siphosenkosi, which trains previously disadvantaged women to make an African rag doll called Nosipho. The doll is featured in each of the books in the Thandi and Nosipho series. Catherine's passion is to work with children who are in crisis, foster care or suffering from the effects of HIV/AIDS., Cath Alexander woon saam met haar gesin in Johannesburg. Hierdie is haar tweede kinderboek.

Emva kweminyaka emalunga neshumi engumfundisi-ntsapho, waye wazibeka phantsi iintambo ukuze agxile ekukhuliseni abantwana bakhe abancinci ababini abafuthele nangothando lokubhala nokufunda. UCath waye waqaphela ukuba ukhona umsantsa odinga ukuvalwa ngokwabelana nabantwana ngeenkcubeko nangeendlela ezahlukeneyo zokuphila eMzantsi Afrika.

Njengotitshalakazi, uCath ucinga ukuba xa iincwadi zabantwana zibonakalisa iinkcubeko ezahlukeneyo oku kuza kuba nefuthe ekubeni abantwana abaninzi bazive bexatyisiwe. Le yincwadi yakhe yesibini yamabali abantwana, emva kwencwadi yakhe yokuqala ethi, Timothy's Tomatoes., UCatherine Groenewald uhlala nomyeni wakhe namadodakazi amathathu epulazini elincane ngaphandle kwaseStellenbosch. Uhlala ematasa ngokubhala, ngokudweba imifanekiso, ngezinkukhu, ngezihlahla zezithelo nangengadi. Uhlanganyela nenhlangano engenzi nzuzo iSiphosenkosi, eqeqesha abesifazane abahlwempu ukwenza udoli wase-Afrika wezindwangu owaziwa ngokuthi nguNosipho.

Lodoli uvela kuzo zonke izincwadi ochungechungeni lwezincwadi zeThandi noNozipho. Uthando olukhulu lukaCatherine ukusebenza nezingane ezisenkingeni, ezikhuliswa ngabanakekeli, noma ezihluphekayo ngenxa yompumela weHIV/AIDS.
