Duncan McKenzie has been birding the Kruger National Park for the last 35 years and was the first person to record 400 species in a calendar year in the park. Based in the Lowveld and working as a consulting ecologist , Duncan has worked on numerous bird and plant surveys in Kruger and has also presented over 60 bird courses – mostly in the far northern Makuleke region. Duncan is also the SABAP2 co-ordinator for Mpumalanga Province and is a Trustee of the John Voelker Bird Book Fund. Hugh Chittenden has over 50 years of birding experience in the region. His ornithological interests have taken him to many remote places on the African continent and elsewhere in the world. Hugh received an honorary doctorate for contributions to ornithology in 2012. He has a passion for bird photography and is author of numerous bird guides in the southern African region. Hugh was Chairman of the John Voelcker Bird Book Fund for 25 years. Ian Whyte spent 37 years living and working in the Kruger National Park. His main function was the study of large mammals (especially elephants) , but he has had a lifelong interest in birds and for 14 years also coordinated avifaunal research in Kruger. He co-authored the first edition of this series in 2008 , and has made several other contributions to scientific and popular bird literature. He has now retired and lives in Hoedspruit. |
