Jeremy Pickering grew up on a stud Jersey farm in the Eastern Cape. He attended Stutterheim School and St Andrews College in Grahamstown and studied law at Stellenbosch University. He worked in the office of the Attorney General, Grahamstown, as well as overseas as a clown in a circus and an assistant pigman on a pig farm before returning to practise as an advocate in Mthatha at the Transkei Bar. In the beginning of 1986 at the height of the State of Emergency, he joined Legal Resources Centre (LRC) in Port Elizabeth and in 1987 opened an office of the LRC in Grahamstown where he served as its Director until 1992 when he was appointed as a Judge of the High Court of the Eastern Cape Division. He retired in 2019 having served as a judge for 27 years. He lives in Kenton on Sea. |
