Anya Schiffrin is the director of the technology, media and communications program at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs. Among other topics, she writes on journalism and development as well as the media in Africa and the extractive sector. Schiffrin spent 10 years working overseas as a journalist in Europe and Asia and was a Knight-Bagehot Fellow at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism in 1999-2000. Schiffrin has lectured and run workshops in Azerbaijan, Bhutan, Ghana, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Nigeria, South Africa and Vietnam among other countries. Her most recent book is Global Muckraking: 100 Years of Investigative Reporting from Around the World (New Press, 2014). George W. Lugalambi is a senior lecturer and head of the Department of Mass Communication at Makerere University, Uganda. His research interests include political communication, African media, deliberative democracy, and communication policies in developing countries. Lugalambi has researched and published on the subjects of media freedom, peace and conflict journalism, and the development of information and communication technologies. |
