Christa Kuljian will share techniques for writing about science for a broad audience. The class will cover: 

  • How can creating a scene, dialogue, vivid characters and plot help bring science stories to life? 
  • How can research, interviews and observation strengthen your story? 
  • Short excerpts from science writing; and 
  • Brainstorming science story ideas and a writing exercise. 

Christa Kuljian is a science writer who has published in the South African Journal of Science and other scientific journals as well as the Mail & Guardian and other magazines for a general audience. Two of her three books have focused on the history of science: Darwin’s Hunch: Science, Race and the Search for Human Origins (Jacana Media 2016), and Our Science, Ourselves: How Gender, Race and Social Movements Shaped the Study of Science (UMass Press, 2024). Christa has an MA in Writing from Wits.
