Anant Singh spent sixteen years working on the film Long Walk to Freedom and immersed himself in the learning of every aspect of Madiba’s long life. Through extensive research, books and interviews he and his team would find a wealth of information. Inevitably, in the making of the film characters had to be compressed, events left out and ways invented that could tell a story and sustain interest. A completely unique biography and thematic telling of the story of Nelson Mandela, Madiba A to Z draws on Danny Schechter’s forty-year relationship with Madiba. Each chapter of this unique portrait corresponds to a letter of the alphabet, and the letters cover major and minor, unexpected and fascinating themes in Mandela’s life and his impact on others: Athlete, Bully, Comrade, Forgiveness, Indigenous, Jailed, Militant, and President, to name a few.
