In this interactive workshop, Zoë unpacks the differences and similarities between a book and a film or TV show, and how to use your book as a blueprint when turning it into a screenplay. The masterclass covers the fundamental principles of screenwriting, including the transformational arc of a character in relation to story structure and methods for adapting a story to function effectively as a film. The masterclass also explores how to write a treatment for pitching a story to producers and broadcasters, outlining the essential elements required. The session is participatory, informative and engaging, with the goal of concluding with a completed logline and dramatic question in place.

Zoë Laband is an award-winning writer and the creator of Hartklop, one of DStv’s most-watched dramas. In 2024, she was nominated for a SAFTA for Best Feature Screenplay (Do Your Worst) and previously won a SAFTA for the comedy series Those That Can’t. She is currently head writer for the Showmax Original Red Herring and Blood Red Thread, which won the 2024 C21 Content London Drama Pitch. With over 25 local TV credits and three produced features, her storytelling skill speaks for itself.
